Sadness from RESILIENCE by Alexander T. Rose
"Sadness" is an emotion I grapple with frequently, yet it's one I often hide from those closest to me. Over the years, I've realized that my emotions have a ripple effect on those around me. If I'm sad, it casts a shadow on their spirits too. I've seen it in the eyes of every person who's entered my life since my illness began. Our emotions are contagious; my happiness can uplift others, just as my sadness can bring them down. I cherish life and the simple joys it brings, like seeing my girlfriend smile. That's why I choose to mask my sadness, to keep those around me uplifted. Besides, sadness has a way of reflecting on the outside, and I refuse to let my illness define my appearance or my spirit. My health might be out of my control, but my emotions? That's a choice I make every day.
