Jima from Revoada by Maurício Fleury
This one was written by bassist Fabio Sá. He toured with Mulatu Astatke in Brasil and after some months of learning and practicing the ethio-jazz scales, he wrote this piece, naming it after Mulatu’s hometown in Ethiopia. We recorded it first take, breathing together and not having a proper form to it, it’s very spontaneous and reminds me of some of the music by Sun Ra, who is one of my biggest heroes in music.
