When I began the Oxide series, the initial idea was to explore the use of sounds produced by oxidation. Squeaks, squeals and groans from rusted metal devices, the scraping of iron plates, etc. I've created visual works based on rust in the past, and during that period I often thought about the parallels between the oxidation of metals and what happens to us as physical beings. Our aging and eventual death seems akin to the lifespan of a piece of metal that slowly disintegrates as a result of oxidation. With this in mind, Oxide 3 incorporates additional sound sources to reflect the aspect of what one might refer to as 'human oxidation'. Activity. Movement. Life.
