Horizons Within by Anthropos: Songs of Humanity

We are a vocal improvisation ensemble that sings from the
common well of our ancestors near and far in place and time,
from the seeds of anonymous collective song around the Earth.

From our shared passion for spontaneous song and the many voices
inside and around us that come alive when we travel together
into the unknown, breathe, listen, feel and follow.

Horizons Within is a series of improvisations recorded during one day, in a small resonant church tower in Hornsey, North London.
The space had a sense of sacredness and being out of the ordinary and yet, some sounds from the outside world permeated its walls and reminded us that we were making music in the middle of the city - traffic, birds, dog walkers...

With more intimate and atmospheric pieces than our previous recordings, the album offers a window into our inner landscapes, exploring new sonorities and textures, and different ways to collaborate musically.

On this occasion, we also invited a dear friend, Brazilian percussionist Adriano Adewale to join our sound world. This is what he shared about our collaboration:

"Making music with Anthropos felt like creating a soundtrack for that moment in our lives. The music became a channel through which our individual and collective experiences could be shared together in the form of sound, diverse sonic gestures that comprised a language of its own. A language of sonic materials, of sound matter. However deep the experience was, it felt warm, free and light - always honest and sincere."
