Biorhythm by Alexey Podymkin
Arrangements of author's music for big band and solo piano.
The pieces taken as the basis for this programme were written at different times, some almost 30 years ago. And all these years they have been performed at concerts and in recordings only in chamber ensembles. But suddenly the idea of giving them a second life in orchestral form arose. This idea was formed quite spontaneously, at one of the "round tables" of the forum "Jazz Across Borders" in December 2022 in St. Petersburg. Leaders of jazz orchestras from Ufa, Kazan, St. Petersburg and Moscow discussed the lack of original author's programmes for most of our jazz artists. Even having in their arsenal a large set of author's material, few Russian musicians dare to create a programme for a big band.
Immediately upon his return to Moscow, Alexei selected 11 pieces from his compositional material that could sound fresh and interesting in orchestral arrangements, and the idea began to take real shape. Real masters of their craft took on the task: arrangers Rafael Rocha from Brazil and Dmitry Serebrov from St Petersburg.
Stylistically, this programme is heterogeneous, with pieces in both traditional jazz styles: second line, swing, straight ahead, and Latin American and fusion styles.
