Non Uscire by Carlo Giustini

The first 15 days of March 2018 brought an anomalous freezing cold from Siberia all over Italy. The gusts of wind and snow took us by surprise and forced many of us to stay at home, giving me the opportunity to partially suspend the shallow relationship with the outside world, allowing me to enter even more into a reflective and introspective state.

These 5 tracks were recorded in those 15 days, placing a contact microphone and a microcassette recorder outside my windowsill, while inside I played and fiddled with pieces of magnetic tape on which were recorded short improvisations of guitar and synthesizer. All of this that was then reproduced at different speeds with an old C1 Library of Congress tape player. Everything was recorded in real time on reel to reel.

Non uscire is a metaphor that leads us to review the relationship with our more intimate life, with our homes and those who lived there before us, persons which inevitably left indelible marks in the structure of the rooms, in the matter, in the scents, in the ceiling paint.
Non uscire is a thought that leads us to reflect on how our homes and it’s walls can separate us forever from a cold, unknown and sometimes useless external world.
