Soup Sonic by Cicada
Soup Sonic was released in 1997 on Cicada's own label, Mr Banger Records. Six songs were recorded at The Lab and four at York Street B Studios in Auckland. All songs were engineered by Chris van de Geer and produced by van de Geer and Cicada. Big production values helped create something both fresh and unsettling here, and NZ on Air rewarded the release with video grants for the songs 'Future Folds', 'Get Up' and 'Backstab'.

Cicada was an alternative, post-rock four-piece formed in Auckland, New Zealand, active from 1992-1998. They combined hard-edged guitar noise with subtle melodies to create a distinctive rhythmic and unnerving sound encapsulated by superbly-crafted shifts in dynamics.
