Silent Spring is a poignant and genre-blending album by David Chalmin that explores the emotional and ecological crises of our time. Building on his 2022 EP Innocence, this full-length release marks Chalmin’s first complete vocal project. It combines folk, electronic, pop, and experimental elements, drawing influence from artists like Radiohead and Sigur Rós, while maintaining a distinct, personal voice.

The album’s title references Rachel Carson’s groundbreaking environmental book Silent Spring, and its themes reflect a deep concern for the planet. Chalmin incorporates field recordings—birdsong and insect sounds from the Basque Country—to underline nature’s fragility and beauty. These recordings enhance the emotional texture of the album, which mourns ecological loss while offering glimpses of hope and renewal.

The album features eleven concise tracks that range in style and mood. Songs like “Come Along” and “Before the End” are gentle and introspective, while others like “Turn on the Lights” and “After All” are more intense and rhythm-driven. Simultaneously, he’s launching Drone Shore, a companion series focusing on ambient instrumental pieces, extending his environmental and artistic vision.
