Menno's Hubris from Ellimist by Ellimist

In this song, Menno's mindset and thought process are explored through inner monologue, as he discovers a technological leap which will allow signals to be sent through the dense, impenetrable Ketran atmosphere, allowing inter-crystal communication and direct communication to other world. This is achieved utilizing zero-space transponders which allow faster than light transmission. Menno's hubris clouds his judgement, and he decides to transmit z-space recordings of the popular Ketran 'video game' Alien Civ to all nearby galaxies, without approval from his crystal's council/people (or anyone else, for that matter) in the name of science. This leads to a catastrophic invasion of the Ketran home-world by the Capasins, an alien race which intercepted the signals, believing them to be factual transmissions of unimaginable genocide; as such, they attack the Ketrans (in reality, the Ketrans are entirely peaceful, and are thus completely unprepared to defend against interstellar invaders) and decimate their entire population. Thanks to Toomin, Lackofa, an engineer named Jicklet, and a few other MCQ3 crew members, a select few Ketran are able to escape the genocide of their species by fleeing their home world into deep space.

And I can’t think of any reason why I can’t change the world, and escape it;
And I still believe in anyone, and everyone, who can see the world as I can
They can’t see the full picture yet; they don’t know quite how much things will change; when I’m done here,

(and it’s done, we’ve achieved interstellar communication-patching through the crystalline lattice-with connectivity to z-space transponders-the sine waves appear to be going through, sir-I checked, it seems functional-it’s just a matter of time until someone can hear-we have confirmation of signal send, sir!-this is incredible! soon, the world can be connected instantaneously, with only a nanosecond delay at worst-sir, i believe we can punch through a signal-what should we send through first?-WHY DON’T WE SEND A FEED OF THE GAMES?

The Messages that we’re sending; they don’t understand that they’re just games; they think that it’s real; That we’re destroying worlds for fun;
It appears they received the transmissions;
of the games we created of worlds filled with these murderous tyrants destroying all life in their path;
they believe us to be CREATORS OF CHAOS!
