High Five! from Artistic Activation by EmpathySaves
Story:
(My Musical journey from Costa Rica- to the US, to Turkey, to Singapore, to the Philippines- to Indonesia))
I began composing this song in Ciudad Colon, Costa Rica during the spring of 2013. I was completing a year of learning at the University for Peace with some of the most amazing people I had ever known. Before we could even process what we had experienced, we said our farewells to our new family of Peace and flew off on our own separate journeys. I returned to my homes- Florida, Chicago, and the Philippines- and reconnected with people I Love. Then, I was off, stopping in Istanbul and Singapore, to finally reunite with Haifa in Jarkarta, Indonesia. I completed this song there during the fall of 2013, and by the end of that year, as I was learning to Love the place and the people, I was off on my next adventure to Maldives.
This is my first song created completely with samples from Garageband. It's an instrumental journey meant to recreate the full range of emotions during the travel experience:
The crazy, overwhelming culture shocks & nature shocks;
Transitioning from west to east, from modern to ancient, the confusion of navigating through crowds, busy streets, jungles, and airports, the fear and excitement of getting lost, the noise, the sounds of unfamiliar languages, strange smells, surprising tastes, and the endless bombardment of seeing all that feels new… !!!
And then…
You can breathe. This is the floating bridge, the interlude - the fleeting moments of elegance and beauty that can only be appreciated when you slow down to not just look, but to truly see. This is where you feel like you can stay.
And then, just when you feel like you've adjusted, that you've built new & lasting friendships, that you may want to be there longer, it's time to fly off to the next adventure.
So the next time Life throws you an unexpected curve ball and you suddenly need to rush to catch your next flight, I hope this soundtrack gives you the musical fuel & energy you need to GO!
