How could it last, could it stay the way it was
Do you remember all the times gone by
The world turned as we burned up the youthful enthusiasm
We alone assumed that we could never die

Then it came, the cold feel, when you sat behind the wheel
We almost lost the lives we thought we'd never lose
But the very next day the cold feeling fell away
And the line, it barely wavered on the cruise

All the lights flowed past as we raced against the sun
We were too young to think in terms of fading light
Our bodies pulsed with heat that's not dependent on the stars
And willingly we moved along into the night

But the cold slipped in when we'd only just begun
The falling feeling of a disappearing day
We learned to bury it inside, say everything will be alright
But every once in awhile we remember life falls away
