"Perfect Angel" by Cotton Crown
Cotton Crown is the on-off solo project of Owen 'O' Williams from The Tubs. It acts as a space for him to experiment with genre, and create alternate proto-versions of Tubs songs. His first release featured a minimal gothic version of The Tubs single 'Wretched Lie', and this latest two track tape - Perfect Angel- features a slower, more ethereal version of 'Freak Mode' : a yet-to-be released Tub tune. Freak Mode, as well as original track Sad Evil Perfect Angel, find Williams warping his voice through autotune, and touching on elements of shoegaze and slowcore, to imbue his signature hook-driven songwriting with an air of digital melancholy.
Williams accidentally leaked 'Sad Evil Perfect Angel' last year (he forgot to make his soundcloud link private) and since then the tune has taken on a life of its own: racking up plays on soundcloud, airing on NTS and being uploaded to youtube channels called things like <3 :) music place :) <3
Williams is a part of the Gob Nation Collective and has recently launched Perfect Angel Press - Gob Nations' "spiteful literature" arm whose first release includes stories from Williams, Ex-Void's Alanna McArdle, Sniffany & The Nits' JMKE and other Gob Nation affiliates.
