Cherished Chops by Harris McSheffery
This track samples from 3 of my "Cherished Moments" album tracks: "So I Can Breathe (Inspired by Budz), "Broken Bridge", and one of the Donkey Reflection tracks from "Supermarket Slip-up".
I chopped up my "So I Can Breathe" sample such that I could make a 5/4 jazz beat, then I layered the other two samples such that I could fill out the texture for some interest. The guitar harmonics were interesting on Broken Bridge, so I played with varispeed for that chop. The Donkey Reflection chops were useful for colour and contrast, so I used them.
Finally, I overdubbed GarageBand drums, personal beatboxing, and 5-string bass with a bit of overdrive for melodic interest.
Improvisation was important to the creative process here, as well as sampling β inspired by hip-hop/rap but taken in a different direction (i.e. jazz).
Also, the album art contains a collage of me playing keyboard on top of a big guitar, with visual references to my music video for "So I Can Breathe (Inspired by Budz)":
