Octane by ARC

This is the very first ARC album produced by Ian Boddy and Mark Shreeve, released in 1998, a year before the DiN label was formed. Mark had already been releasing albums featuring his Moog modular under the band name Redhsift which was really nailing that Berlin School sequencer sound. Boddy & Shreeve had known each other since 1982 with them both being stable mates at the Mirage cassette label which released several of their early albums and were very much from the same musical heritage, so it only seemed natural that they would eventually collaborate together. Thus the ARC project was born and Octane was created down in Mark's studio over a number of sessions with Boddy bringing down his Roland System 100-M modular as well as his vintage VCS3. The resulting 5 tracks feature sequencer heavy tracks with the two musicans improvising together and then adding extra layers of keyboards and atmospheres as overdubs. The music is so organic, like a living, breathing organism ascending from the quietest whisper to a thunderous sequencer climax before being deconstructed back to a nebulous memory of what has gone before.
