Just around the turn of the century
Just this once we hatched a scheme
There's no telling how to spend your fury
Blowing off steam

Twenty-five years half a lifetime ago
Just a kid trying to be mature
All the scams I assured you didn't know
The lies we endure

Little indiscretions of little consequence
Just until you had enough
We like to think we can sit on the fence
But it was all just a bluff

Out on the balcony with all the stars
Just this once we didn't argue
Sitting quietly with our sins and scars
So far from true

We got in the car and started to drive
Headed East it didn't matter where
Any movement meant we were still alive
Any excuse to still care

I knew these were our last hours
I wrote a myth; an origin story
I changed the ending with super powers
So you would bask in my glory

If blame was a game you couldn't lose
Just this once I would play my worst
Time will heal every little bruise
So you could finish first

Twenty-five days we spent together
Just kids in the bodies of young adults
On vacation that long September
Just truths and faults
