She had a wishbone she was afraid to break
I said “go on girl for goodness sake”
She said “I always get the short end of the stick”
We broke the wishbone
It made my heart sick

She tells a tale
Of a picket fence around a heart
That’s turned into jail
She’s growin’ wise
Won’t believe soft-spoken words of hope
Time turns into lies
She’s growing cold
And growing old

But there was once a time
When the angels sang her name
The whole world was mine
And I had nothin’ more to gain
I was her biggest fan
She was my heaven-sent
Now here I am and there she went

It isn’t fair
She let the voices in her head
Tell her to beware
She never cheats
But weaves a web of strings attached
To everyone she meets
She’s solid as a stone
And all alone
