Mother by Karuah

The lyrics to Mother were written mid 2020 during the Fight For The Bight campaigns. I was so inspired by the strength of Australia’s ocean loving community, pulling together in the thousands across the country. We protested non-violently with paddle outs and marches nation wide to show Equinor that we won’t stand for another oil rig to be constructed in such an important ecological site.

Fortunately we won this battle, which was a win for environmentalists worldwide, a demonstration that we can make a difference if we band together.

Funnily enough the music to this song was written years ago, though I had never found the lyrical content to match the power of the music I had envisioned. When I sat down and tried again last year these lyrics flowed easily and emotively.

Byron based singer-songwriter Karuah has never been short of stories to tell. Three years of travel and fifteen years honing his craft laid a solid foundation for his upcoming release, Insight. 

With the help of adept producer Jo Loewenthal (TORA) and the grounding force of the tranquil northern rivers, he’s been able to tap into what has become his signature ‘ethereal folk’ sound.
