Gitanjali by Matt Adcock

Gitanjali is a project I started working on in December 2015.

Inspired by some of the best Ethno-Electronica albums of the last 20 years and the works of Claus Zundel (Sacred Spirit), Michael Cretu (Enigma), Asian Dub Foundation and Deep Forest, I envisaged a musical journey from Mumbai to The Punjab and Bengal. The vocal samples are all taken from these regions, fusing Hindi melodies with English vocals.

Gitanjali is a Bengali word (গীতাঞ্জলি) which translates as Song Offerings, ("Gita" meaning Song and "Anjali" meaning Offering).

As the album begins we are introduced to the hustle and bustle of Mumbai and the razzmatazz of Bollywood with the opening track "Go East".
The journey doesn't slow down until we get to "I Still Want You", a song about love lost.

"See The Light" is inspired by the influence of Eastern music on Western culture during the sixties when certain famous pop stars were abandoning their guitars and replacing them with sitars.

We return to Mumbai with "Hypnotised", a hard hitting dancefloor track with Bollywood-inspired vocals.

The album finishes with "Home", a song dedicated to the plight of refugees, the homeless and the exiled.
