This record is, in so many ways, a love letter to the films of Studio Ghibli and in particular the incomparable team of director, Hayao Miyazaki and composer, Joe Hisaishi.
Over the last half year, I have been sharing the fantastical world of Miyazaki with my 5 year old daughter, Sophia. This record was born when she and I were watching Spirited Away one evening. She was a little frightened by the loss of the parents, and the appearance of the KAMI spirits as the darkness began to close in on Chihiro. Amazingly Sophia was able to defeat her fear with inspiration. She suggested we make a beat from the music playing as the first lamps are lit at Yubaba's bathhouse.
