THE RIVER by The Peck Allmond Group
This album - recorded in a private Berkeley home with a stunning piano, beautiful acoustics, and a large and appreciative audience - remains one of my favorite recordings of the Peck Allmond Group. We had been playing together since 1989, and had developed an intuition and appreciation for each other that sometimes felt like mind-reading. I am so grateful that I had the chance to work so much with my favorite musicians.
The crystalline recording - by Bud Spangler & Jeff Cressman - is another reason I love the album so much. To get this kind of sound from a live recording is miraculous! And a testament to how great Bud & Jeff really were.
I have included snapshots that were all taken that day in 1997 at the Chamber Arts House and have been sitting around waiting to be used (except for the photo of Jackie McLean, which is from one of his Village Vanguard performances).
