Hearth by phiada

'Hearth' began forming in early 2025, with some of the songs dating back even further. It has been my main focus for the last 9 or so months, and has become not only the lengthiest, but the most in-depth and cohesive musical project I have made thus far.

While the album most likely falls under the broad umbrella of 'dubstep', I don't think the songs fit neatly into the categories of 'liquid', 'melodic', or 'future' riddim. Those styles certainly informed many aspects of the composition, but I constantly strove to test the rigid boundaries they typically impose. Many tracks reflect inspiration from a plethora of other non-dubstep (and even non-EDM) genres of music, all in service of the emotions I sought to convey rather than DJ-friendly genre conformity.

With 'Hearth', I wanted the music to evoke the relieving warmth of a fire on cold nights—a 'summer album for the winter', so to speak. Music has always been a heat source for me, both listening to and producing, and it has become ever so necessary over the past year. This album has been a place for me to eke out a bit of comfort while watching the world rapidly deteriorate, and by sharing it with you, I hope that I can provide at least an ember from my campfire during the harsh and bitter winter we find ourselves in.
