Life underground is as low as it gets
You spit out your thoughts and then regret it.
You’re waiting each day for the Barbarians
You can see the dust cloud risin’ out on the horizon
But you’re still makin’ messes, so you’re always cleanin’ up
You got your superstitions about certain coffee cups
And Jesus can’t be bothered cuz he already bit the dust
Mohammed keeps a pager but it’s always set on buzz

And suckers are born everyday
They come into the world in the usual way
And nobody really thinks “What the hay?”
But it’s ok, you live to fight another day.

She’s been rationing the sunlight
She was a Daughter to the Hill
She was the first person at my school with a prescription for the Pill.
And she died in 1990 but I can’t remember why
Wrote her a letter when I turned 40 but I got no reply

And suckers are born everyday
