BACKSTORY FOR THE REAL ONEZ:
Back in 2019-2020, I met benjo via online hip-hop forums over a shared love of that gritty, grimy & raw east coast hip-hop sound.
Out of Graz, Austria, benjo was cooking up beats that melded perfectly into the sound I had been looking for - off-kilter, unsettling, and undeniably unique. I wanted to go as far off rhythm as the steady kicks & dusty snares of boom bap would let me.
In what began as an overambitious full-backstory-written-out concept album, benjo had pipelined me a steady stream of wacked out ideas and startling discoveries he called beats. This maniacal process seems to have worked out; Mobb is not the first, nor the last, collaboration we have seen out the door.
As luck would have it, heavy slugger and fellow Drop Column original inductee was available & hungry for collab verses around the same time Mobb was coming about. Whether your mate is quick with a wrench, steady in the trench, or sitting on a bench - if they got talent and want to work with you, you take em up on it. The rest is history.
A final bow was put on this track to get it sounding nice & crispy by our good friend and Drop Column swagfather, Carbrey. His engineering skills have gone far beyond what any of us could have imagined when we started out - thank you, Carb.
