"Popyt” in Polish means demand. The musicians of the Mateusz Pałka/Szymon Mika Quartet believe there's a demand for expressive melodies in jazz. Out of this conviction came an album with six original compositions by Mateusz Pałka/Szymon Mika and one Sonny Rollins' standard “Airegin”. It's a balanced dialogue between piano and guitar with suitable additions from the bass and drums that takes listeners on a journey throughout the album.
Each musicians from the group has already been acknowledged individually and awarded on international festivals such as Jazz Hoeilaart, Jazz nad Odrą, Getxo International Jazz Festival.
This is their debut album as Mateusz Pałka/Szymon Mika Quartet.


Mateusz Pałka/Szymon Mika Quartet to młodzi muzycy, którzy wierzą w popyt na jazz oraz w sugestywne melodie. Jak twierdzą, muzyka powinna być "długodystansowa" – przetrwać upływ czasu i zmieniające się mody. Płytę "Popyt" wyróżnia siła współbrzmienia oraz dynamiczna interakcja pomiędzy instrumentalistami, czyli prawdziwe zespołowe granie. Autorskie kompozycje "Nóż w maśle", "Popyt" czy "Zakaz smutku" uruchamiają wyobraźnię i zapadają w pamięć. Pomiędzy sześć świeżych, oryginalnych melodii wpleciony został jeden standard autorstwa Sonnego Rollinsa.
Indywidualnie członkowie kwartetu nagrali już kilka płyt i zdobyli liczne nagrody na polskich oraz światowych festiwalach (Jazz nad Odrą, Jazz Hoeilaart, Getxo International Jazz Festival). "Popytem" debiutują jako Mateusz Pałka/Szymon Mika Quartet Jest to debiut niezwykle obiecujący.

Szymon Mika is a dedicated explorer of the vastness of the strings. The Polish guitarist, composer and bandleader combines influences from Polish folklore, experimental music, groove jazz as well as free improvisation in his music. His musical presence always involves a string instrument and a virtuosity second to none.
