Minced Pie by Tali Trow & Nigel Thomas
Tali Trow and Nigel Thomas met at university over 20 years ago, both ex choir boys, they soon found themselves playing around the halls and bars of college as a harmony and guitar duo.
The following two decades saw them both forge their own paths in music, Nigel as lead singer of cult indie band ‘The Foxes’, and Tali as a touring and session musician with the likes of Gemma Hayes, Bonnie Dobson and The Coal Porters. Between them they have toured the world and had their music played on BBC Radio, NPR, and they have shared stages with everyone from The Rolling Stones to Mumford and Sons.
They came back together musically for Nigel’s solo record ‘Travelling Man’ in 2016, and even then, the idea of a Christmas record was in the pipeline. This year felt like the right time to try and make this a reality, and simplicity and honesty were at its heart.
Recorded over 3 days predominantly live in Trow’s parent’s living room on the Isle of Wight, the setting and the song choice speak of personal nostalgia, and also the seemingly endless way Christmas songs can be interpreted. They were joined for the session by David Hart on drums, bass and electric guitar.
The idea behind the record was to create a sing-a-long collection but that also gave a nod to the artists both musicians admire from the past who have never, or never got the chance to delve into the Christmas Canon
