"To invoke this material in a word - dense. Having made so much progress in recent months with the previous set - or so I thought - I found this influx hit me like the proverbial brick wall. Queer sounds. Obscure allusions. Concatenations of alienating landscape, feeling, and metre. It is another dimension, not only of sight and sound. Am I seeing the future spread before me, or webs - as if I a prospective Havisham - leaping to the eaves as the feather-duster moves to sweep them into place rather than away, time's arrow flipped in flight to emesh me?"
Robert Kuppenheimer, Town Librarian, Barrington-St John, RI, April 21st, 1961
