The time has come to present to you our second full-length. In these 8 years we have mutated into something bigger, and our ideology has changed in some ways, and grown in others. The old-school doom sludge will follow you through all 43 minutes - heavy as a tombstone with huge cast-iron nails hammered into it. Each opus is a reflection on all that surrounds us. Degradation of the flesh has become a brand, and Hell has become the meaning of life.

"I'm catching up with new music on this morning in Eugene, Oregon! The record that has impressed me the most so far is Thy Grave. That's right, Mother Russia comes through AGAIN with some of the purist death doom I've heard short of Moanhand this year (I know there's still a lot of bands I have to catch up with, of course!).

To the album before us: 'Filth' (2021). Holy goat is it good! Fuck yes, this is the vibe I've been longing for all season — not that the music hasn't been sufficiently dismal already, with excellent new releases from both Apostle of Solitude and Monolord. Thy Grave is grimmer yet still, with whisky burned vocals, guitars that can really grind on those low notes, and rhythm that kicks ass ("Approach to Suffering") — even in (maybe I should say "especially in") those slow, weighty, knuckle dragging songs ("Fucking Useless Whores").

One of my favorites this year, but don't mind me. I'm negative, as Trainspotting's Renton would say. On the other hand, if this is the kind of wavelength you can really vibe on, then you will not be disappointed with the all-encompassing atmosphere of swampy, gray sludge, with murky doom sea serpents that dip their head above the water every now and again "Second Sanctuary"),

"Как известно, модель вселенной doomового вайба представляет собой обсидиановый столп, размещенный в центре стеклянной колбы. На столп этот нанизаны год за годом, эпоха за эпохой, поколение за поколением, жизнь за жизнью, тело за телом; таким образом, стержень нашего бытия представляет собой ничто иное, как метафизический шавермовый вертел, с румяной кромки которого вереницы неофитов, бредущих по затянутым дымкой дорогам, оставляя за собой отпечатки кровавых ступней, горы окурков, осколки бутылок и кучки экскрементов, срезают сочащиеся куски, оборачивая их в tortillas разнообразных веяний.

Представленный ныне шматок, очевидно, был вырезан из той части кишащей и корчащейся на вертеле массы, что находится весьма близко к эпицентру и где-то в двадцати годах от подверженной изменчивой моде корочки; данный стафф вполне мог бы быть создан параллельно с ACCEPT DEATH, например. Не стоит думать, что данное утверждение является показателем поездки "с ярмарки", некоего морального устаревания, о нет: это достаточно весомая похвала степени владения риффом и грувом, которая показывает себя в лучшем виде все сорок три минуты, покуда безразличные и беспощадные ролики сладжевыжималки наматывают душу на свою ржавую и обсыпающуюся плоть. Звучание альбома выбрано очень удачно, максимально приближаясь к записи с пульта на каком-нибудь гиге, запрятанном посреди леса и неглубоких могил, что оказывает неизгладимый эффект присутствия; есть с чем сравнить, поскольку имел честь присутствовать на презентации сего материала в ходе совместного тура THY GRAVE и DEKONSTRUKTOR, и был разорван на куски и разбросан по углам зала.

Размеренность, уверенность и беспощадность - пожалуй, именно эти три понятия лучше всего характеризуют "Filth". Очень круто, очень фирменно, отличный пример музыки вне времени и границ; естественно, кто-то скажет, что весь этот альбом ты уже слышал на других альбомах, исторгнутых зловонными топями, бурлящими от Луизианы до Финляндии, но мы, посмеиваясь в бороду, ответим, что сладж - это червь, который жрет одну и ту же почву, лишь улучшая её жирность и качество.

И "Filth" - чертовски откормленный червь."

"Thy Grave - Filth богатый релиз с неебически красивым артом на картонном боксе от лейбла Pestis-Insaniae, так же почему-то отсутствует в библиотеке дискогса. Обычно про такие релизы у нас пишут что-то про "жир", "скалы", "минотавров". Я же наверное скажу, что это одна из немногих российских сладж групп, дотянувших до второго десятилетия этого века, играющая так, что не хочется выключить через половину песни. Thy Grave from Moscow spew this out a lot, and their second album Filth, which was released eight years after their debut Anhedonia, is no exception. The album is aptly titled and the music is very much in keeping with this: we’re officially talking about doom here, but Thy Grave are much more aggressive and bad-tempered than ordinary doomers. There's death metal in there, sludge, something evil; the quartet takes its instruments and plays them particularly slowly and brutally. Each riff takes minutes to uncoil, and the singer shouts and roars his displeasure into the world.


Over the course of the album — six tracks in three quarters of an hour — there’s hardly any variation in the tempo; it remains sluggish, disturbing, depressing, and at the same time aggressive. But it’s not quite without variations: within the tracks, Thy Grave change the intensity of the brutality, so they also reduce the energy at times and riff on the guitars for ages without the drums and bass maintaining the pressure towards the abyss. Filth is heavy stuff and is definitely not something that will brighten up the dark days."

"Die Welt ist Scheiße, und das muss man ab und zu auch mal in Musik ausdrücken. Thy Grave aus Moskau kotzen ordentlich ab, auch auf dem zweiten Album „Filth“, das acht Jahre nach dem Debüt „Anhedonia“ erschien. Der Titel ist passend gewählt, die Musik entspricht dem sehr: Von Doom ist hier offiziell die Rede, doch sind Thy Grave wesentlich aggressiver und schlechter gelaunt als gewöhnliche Doomer. Da steckt Death Metal drin, Sludge, irgendwas Böses noch, das Quartett nimmt sein Instrumentarium und spielt es besonders langsam und brutal. Jedes Riff braucht Minuten, um einmal vollständig abgewickelt zu werden, und dazu keift und gröhlt der Sänger seinen Unmut in die Welt.

Über die Spielzeit des Albums – sechs Songs in einer guten Dreiviertelstunde – variieren Thy Grave das Tempo kaum, es bleibt verschleppt, verstört, deprimierend und dabei gleichzeitig aggressiv. So ganz ohne Variationen geht es dann aber doch nicht ab: Innerhalb der Tracks verändern Thy Grave die Intensität der Brutalität, sie fahren also auch mal die Energie zurück und riffen ewig auf einer Gitarre herum, ohne dass Schlagzeug und Bass den Druck in Richtung Abgrund beibehalten. „Filth“ ist schwere Kost und nicht dazu geeignet, dunkle Tage aufzuhellen.

Thy Grave ging seinerzeit maßgeblich aus der Band Meister Leonhardt hervor. An „Filth“ beteiligt waren Eugene, eigentlich Evgeniy Murashkin (Евгений Мурашкин) und alias Rodislav, Gitarre und Gesang, Max (Gitarre), Ira (Bass) und Sergey (Schlagzeug). Damit fand ein Wechsel seit dem Debüt statt, dort hießen Musiker noch Røt und Uporoller; Helferlein und Digger scheinen geblieben zu sein, nur umbenannt.
