Highlights of the 1997-98 Academic Year
- Summer European Tour with performances at the North Sea and Montreux Jazz Festivals and at Hnita Jazz Club, in Heist-Op-Ten-Berg, Belgium.
- UNI Jazz Band One's 1997 CD, Conversations, was included once again in Herb Wong's list of "Blue Chip' collegiate jazz recordings (Jazz Educators Journal)
- UNI Jazz Band Two, directed by Jon Schwabe, was selected as winner of the college big band competition at the UW-Eau Claire Jazz Festival

Guest artists who appeared on campus this year include:
Conrad Herwig, trombone; Mike Lee, tenor saxophone; Walter Thompson, sound painter; and A Band In All Hope (Bill Carrothers, piano; Anton Denner, saxophones/flute; Bill Stewart, drums)
