Back in the broiler bar, that's where I first heard her name
Full faddom five, that's where she lies
Now wrapped in plasticine, she couldn't make the scene
Coral are her bones, pearls are her eyes

White lines marked the ledge, no birds would sing
Set my teeth on edge, made me shake and everything
Nothing of her would change, saved beneath the sea
But did she change into something rich and strange!

Later that evening I went to the shore
Saw the setting sun, heard the waters roar
Voice whispered sadly, "Please let me be
I've suffered enough, tasted enough misery"

Then Mary stood quick and pointed at me:
"You'd make company down beneath the sea!"
Then from that bank I ran, a great heave arose
Mary, I won't share your pain or woes
